Three people in Louisville were injured in a car accident that happened out on the Dixie Highway. Two of those individuals were officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department. The other was a civilian.

The accident happened right around 7:30 in the evening. The officers had gotten a call about an overdose, according to the department, and were in the midst of their response. They had their sirens and lights on as they were traveling down the highway’s southbound lanes. They crashed when they got to the intersection with Stephan Drive.

The investigation is still continuing, so it is unclear exactly how the accident played out. However, emergency vehicles with lights and sirens on are supposed to have the right of way.

One of the officers suffered an arm injury, while the other has a head injury. The one with the head injury was rushed over to University Hospital, with police blocking off the route so that the trip could be made as quickly as possible. While the other officer and the civilian were taken to the hospital as well, reports do not convey the same urgency and do not list the extent of the civilian’s injuries at all.

It has been noted that none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. A spokesperson with the force said that they counted themselves “extremely lucky” on that front.

Car accidents happen incredibly quickly, especially when emergency vehicles are hurrying to respond to a call. Serious injuries, such as head injuries, can be life-changing for those who are hurt. It’s very important for them to know all of their legal options in the wake of these accidents.
