Companies Still Violate Asbestos Laws
OSHA Cites U.S. Steel For Asbestos Violations
For the second time in five years, OSHA has cited U.S. Steel for violating asbestos regulations. OSHA stated: “once again, we have found U.S. Steel Corp. failed to protect its employees from the serious risks of asbestos exposure. Breathing airborne asbestos fibers can cause lung damage that often progresses to disability and possible death,” said Christopher Robinson, director of OSHA’s Pittsburgh Area Office. “Given the potential danger to the health of its workers, the company must take immediate steps needed to avoid its employees’ prolonged exposure to asbestos.”
Sadly, U.S. Steel is not the only company that continues to expose its workers to asbestos despite stringent regulations intended to prevent workers from being exposed to harmful carcinogens. If you have been exposed to asbestos on a jobsite, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has established procedures for you to report violations and for the responsible employer to be held accountable.
If you have been exposed to asbestos at any time in your life, contact Satterley & Kelley. We will advise you of your rights regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with an asbestos disease or not.
