Head-on highway crash takes life of Kentucky woman
It takes less than two hours to drive northeast of Louisville to get to Hebron. The Cincinnati suburb that has a population of about 6,000 was the site of a recent fatal motor vehicle crash that involved two cars and a pick-up truck.
According to a news report, a 45-year-old Kentucky woman died after her 2001 Pontiac Sunfire was struck head-on by a Chrysler Sebring that had “suddenly and unexpectedly veered left, crossing the center line” of a highway.
A Boon County Sheriff’s Department said officials do not yet know why the Chrysler veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into the Pontiac. The Sunfire was flipped by the violent collision, the news report states, and landed on its roof, ejecting the Aurora woman.
She was pronounced dead at the scene on westbound KY 237.
Law enforcement officials said that after the Chrysler struck the woman’s Pontiac, it hit a Chevy Silverado.
The sheriff’s department is asking for any witnesses to come forward to help investigators understand the cause of the crash.
While we know no more about this tragedy than what we’ve read in the news report, we do know that in many similar crashes a distracted driver will sense that his or her vehicle has drifted while they were looking at their phone. The driver overcorrects and sends their vehicle on a wild trajectory that can have catastrophic results.
