Justice claims there’s actually no asbestos in teen makeup

August 11, 2017/0 Comments/in Asbestos

A report out of Durham, North Carolina, claimed that asbestos was being used in makeup sold at Justice. The retail outlet targets teens and young girls, selling them makeup and related products.

The report itself came after a study done by the Scientific Analytical Institute in Greensboro. They said that they’d run tests on the Just Shine Shimmer Powder and found the dangerous material.

Asbestos, of course, used to be used in building materials until it was linked to cancer and other deadly health issues. It has since been outlawed for public use, and it certainly shouldn’t be used in makeup.

One expert noted that the problem wasn’t just the asbestos, but the fact that it was in a children’s product. That expert claimed the kids could eventually end up passing away when they were in their 40s or even their 30s if they were exposed repeatedly. Obviously, the risk is also there for adults, but children’s lives could be cut far shorter with early exposure.

However, the company recently fired back, saying the report was “simply inaccurate.” They said they had third-party tests carried out — meaning they didn’t simply test it on their own, which would raise questions — and those tests found no traces of asbestos.

Since the two sides do not agree, and both claim to have carried out the proper tests, this will be very important for consumers to watch. After all, those who have been exposed to asbestos may have a right to financial compensation for medical costs, and those who have lost loved ones may need compensation for funeral costs, lost wages and more.
