Your Client Has Mesothelioma. Why Should You Work with Satterley & Kelley?
Millions of Americans were exposed to asbestos at some point. For too many, that’s come back to haunt them decades later in the form of asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesotheliomas. What they hoped for their golden years becomes a living nightmare of a once-active life drawing quickly and painfully to a close.
If someone comes to you to discuss their asbestos-related illness, you may know little or nothing about asbestos, the products containing it, the many medical studies warning of its dangers, and the devastation it can do to people. The product was largely regulated off the market in the late 1970s, and that may seem like ancient history to you.
Decades of litigation have resulted in the bankruptcies of all the major asbestos industry (except the few whose asbestos use remains legal), but that doesn’t mean compensation for victims isn’t available. Trust funds set up for victims during bankruptcy proceedings are worth billions of dollars. Your client may not only have a fatal and aggressive form of cancer but viable legal claims that could result in a substantial settlement or award.
The legal practice is increasingly specialized, so the chances you have a working knowledge, and practical experience with asbestos litigation are slim to none. Like any other potential client whose needs go beyond what you feel comfortable providing, you can be co-counsel with another firm to make sure your client gets the legal advice and representation they need and the personal and professional service they deserve while you receive income from the case.
That co-counsel should be Satterley & Kelley.
Why Should You Trust Your Client to Satterley & Kelley?
Satterley & Kelley have fought for the rights of asbestos victims for decades. We’ve learned a lot over that time, including how:
- Our clients worked for a living
- That led to asbestos exposure
- They become sick
- Companies defend themselves
- These trust funds operate
It’s been a priceless education that’s improved our knowledge of the law, asbestos, and its dangers. We also have years of practical courtroom experience protecting our clients’ rights, sometimes across the table from lawyers working for some of the nation’s biggest law firms.
It’s easy to discuss what we do in the abstract, but the verdicts we’ve achieved for our clients in asbestos-related cases over the years speak much louder:
- $35.7 Million Asbestosis Case
- $5.97 Million Lung Cancer Case
- $5.65 Million Mesothelioma Case
- $1.88 Million Mesothelioma Case
- $1.52 Million Lung Cancer Case
We welcome the chance to talk to you about how we can help your client achieve the best outcome possible.
Asbestos Cases are About People
Kentucky is a blue-collar state. People work with their hands in skilled and unskilled jobs. You won’t find many lawyers filing asbestos claims because we work in offices, not shipyards, power plants, chemical plants, factories, or underneath cars doing brake jobs.
Our clients worked in difficult, demanding, sometimes dangerous, and health-threatening conditions. Their employer may have cut corners and denied them proper safety equipment. They kept going anyway, hoping they wouldn’t get hurt and needing a paycheck to support themselves and their families.
When you represent as many clients as we have, you understand that asbestos companies and often plaintiffs’ employers had little or no regard for human life or health. Terrible, unsafe working conditions seemed to be experiments to learn how quickly how many people could get how sick. Workers were used up and thrown away as cheaply as possible.
Many of our clients are at or near retirement age. They managed to make it out of their careers alive. All that blood, sweat, and tears spent over decades of hard work should earn you time away from the job, with friends and loved ones fishing, hunting, traveling, on the beach, or just taking it easy.
But not for our clients. They spend these golden years with nurses, oncologists, surgeons, and radiologists. If they’re not fishing, they may be getting another CT scan or second opinion at a distant hospital. The sites they see are the insides of cancer centers and operating rooms.
We get to know our clients. We talk about their lives, families, health, and treatment. We learn about their personalities, life stories, and fears. We celebrate their good news and mourn their loss when the time comes. It’s easy to measure cases in dollars, but satisfaction comes in knowing we’ve done our part to improve an awful situation for someone unfairly suffering a terrible fate.
It’s incredibly humbling to work with and be trusted by these amazing, strong people and their families. They’ve had the rug pulled out from under their lives when they are most vulnerable. Our clients’ long careers of hard work inspire us every day. They’re not case files, they’re practically family, and we treat them as such.
Is that how your clients should be treated?
